I'm interested in taking a food writing course to get acquainted with the fundamentals of developing recipes, reviewing restaurants, etc. So far, I've found a couple in the U.S. (I'm from Canada) but they're very expensive with the currency exchange.

Anyone know of a reasonable food writing/communication course? Or, do you have alternative suggestions to kickstart a food writing career?

djm, I have done a little writing and my advice to you is to just write and learn from your mistakes. I wrote for free for a publication for a few years, and have a few writing friends who critique my work. I also put our 2 community newsletters to practice. Use search engines and look up writing on the net and you'll also find resources to help you. I think any writing course by correspondance, on the net or whatever would be a help - it doesn't have to be a food writing course. Where are you from? I'm from Montreal.

I am from vancouver and have been doing what you're doing, writing for free. I would like to take the leap and get paid for what I do eventually:). Since I don't have a strong cooking background, I thought a food writing course might add some credibility but if I can't find one, I will do what you suggest . . . just write and learn.
