I am a 21 years old college student from Korea and currently
staying in Berkeley,CA. I am taking a leave of absense after I finished my second year in my school back home, and my major is business. Even though my major is business, I have been very interested in cooking, but I had no idea where to start and how to start. In Korea, schools for cooking is not very well organized yet and still on begining stage.
lately I learned about CCA, CIA, J&W and other
famous schools and I went visit CCA a couple of days ago. I am very interested in their chef program and thinking about getting started on August.
The reason why I want to go to CCA is beacuse I am
planning to go back to korea to finish my school. If I start 60 weeks program in this summer, I can go back to my school back home by the spring semester,2003. my final goal is opening a restaurant which will present korean food and culture ,and the food is going to be the one that everybody can like.I think it could be called fusion food. In that sense,I assume that studying businss would be useful in the long run..
However, I read a lot of articles about CIA and other 4 years programs, and I am wondering if I would get disadvantages by getting AOS in CCA.
Is CCA program enough, compare to those 4 years program? And what should I do if I want to study further after I finish CCA?
And I also would like to know if my decision to go to CCA is right decision.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
thank you.
best,
Sarah

Sarah, look for a school that will give you what you need, all the schools you mentioned are good except one in my opinion. CIA and CCA would be better choices. You said you were planning on opening a restaurant w/ Korean foods see if either school has anything related, if not you live in CA now, CCA might be your choice, if you want to move CIA would be good too. The other school you mentioned and I did not does not give you enough hands on experience in my opinion.
Good Luck

yes, sarah,do go to the CCA in august.as long as you can stay interested in cooking, also learn how to work with your hands. learn how to be on your feet for a long time.it is not like an office job.your chef can be completely unreasonable in his or her treatment of you.i would say drop thoughts about restaurants for now and concentrate on the basics of the culinary arts.thank you for reading....junior
