Does anyone know the origin of chili as we know it, "chili con carne". I read that it was suppose to have orginated in Texas, but I wanted to make sure.

Chile came to be in the texas prison system as a way of feeding the inmate population cheaply,useing a wide variety of ingredients(some on the tainted side,the spices covered up the "gamey taste of spoiled meat")you can get the original recipe from the Texas department of corrections.
