I just wanted to rant about an event which happened in my community a few weeks ago. A diner
at a local big chain Rest. was admitted to the hopital for food born illness. after testing it was determined that this womans steak had been urinated on. She had taken the rest home and was able to have this to give to the doctors.I am a exec at a hotel and this disturbs me greatly.
where are the manangers .i have problems like everyone else ocassionally but i just understand how this can happen. I have cooked my entire life and have worked in kitchens for 16 years and have never seen anything like this. This has really made mad and embarassed for this to happen in our community(literal and the foodservice industry as a whole) I know i work in a different world than these chains do . I feel I and my staff do have a passion and pride for the food we present but shouldn 't there have been somebody to stop this. I mean should sending back a steak be punished by this.
sorry just had to vent

Hum....this sounds wierd but would urine really make you sick enough to go to a hospital? Personally I kind of think the women did it her-self, looking for money.

This is too far out there to be worried about it or maybe even beleive it's real. Think about it, I've also been around for a few years. No way in a busy place anyone could get away with that. Funny how she brought the rest home?!

I just heard about a McDonalds thing....with a rat's head on a burger. I don't believe it at all! There are people who'd posion their own kids trying to sue for big bucks.

I worry day in and day out about real food born problems.

I was always under the impression you can drink your own urine.

Did she get sick while eating, and then just happen to take the steak with her to the hospital?

I do agree with your position. I scream at people all day about simple sanitation issues. But your story seems a bit out there. No doubt it happens. We just had a few people die after eating at a burrito place. Seems the prep guy wasn't washing his hands because there were no towels or TP in the bathrooms. Nice, huh?

Did you see the picture of the "chicken head" McNugget that was going around in December. That was great! Wish I would find one, more cash than a lottery ticket.

Urine is sterile to your own body, not someone elses. How long had she had the steak? Did she keep it in her car for an afternoon and then eat it ? I think that more than likely it is a hoax on the womans part in an effort for the old fashioned American lawsuit. The mouse in the beer scam.

I would like to believe it was a hoax . all I know is the fact that a good friend of mine was a
nurse on duty in the er that day.so i can attest
to the fact that the woman was sick. The womans husband went home to get the steak.the woman was not acusing f.b. ilness she was just violently ill. after the steak was tested she said she had sent the steak back 3 times. she had taken the steak home and refrigerated it. the woman was a rather wealthy woman so i think money was not a motive. i also asked a lot of the same questions you have asked becauce i am leary of all the claims made toward fb illness esp in these sue happy times. thanks for your thoughts later Troy

Well, personally I'd never eat anything that I had to send back three times. Christ, three times? And, then she took the dead piece of meat home? That's taking your life into your own hands!

Money perhaps might be a motivation for other people to pull similar bs. Those with money to burn are usually just idiots looking for attention.

You might also want to post the name and location of this place if you want to warn others, and perhaps add a little bit of validity to your tale. Everyone has friends who work in the ER, as paramedics, cops, chefs,...

OK, I am an RN, In a healthy person urine is compltely sterile- no bacteria at all. if there was bacteria in it the person the urine came from would have been sick, ever had a bladder infection? it is painful.
I think this is an urban legand you could drink urine straight up and it wont make you sick other than you would have to be mental to actually do it. ;-)
