Just to spice things up a bit,did anyone watch iron Chef (New York) the other night ?
I was surprised that Bobby Flay lost especially with all the U.S. judges!
I for one was a bit mbarassed by the way he,Bobby, presented himself. I do not think that jumping up on the cutting board was a very good idea, and he did seem just a wee bit to cocky.
I guess that would explain why he has not mentioned his lose on his own show, god help us if he had won!!!
Does anyone have any feelings about this?
Just kinda curious how you Yanks feel.
hope to hear from ya soon.

I watched the Iron Chef show that you were talking about. I actually worked for Bobby at mesa and believe me cocky is not the word I would have used.We (Chefs) have worked hard to be reconized as professionals and with our celebrety chefs acting like Chef Flay did only sets us back several years in my opinion.

He's way too cocky for what he is, and of course, someone that arrogant could never admit his losses, right? I wish thay had chosen someone with a bit more talent, and a bit less attitude.

You guys need to remember that the program is designed for it's Japanese audience, and that their taste in TV programing is very different to ours here on the west. Believe it or not, it is one of, if not THE most watched shows in Japan.
I spent 6 months working in Japan and have some understanding of the people. To them the outragious performances by the contestants and the judges is just all part of the show. It is not to be taken seriously. But as a whole the people take the preperation and presentation of food very seriously. Remember, it is us who live in the land of junk food and even worse junk television. So even though I am appalled at the show itself and do not watch it, I grant the other peoples of this planet to be amused by what amuses them.
And as Mr. Flay,(I refuse to grant him the title Chef) he is really just insecure about his own talents and the brashness and posturing is his way to compensate for his own feelings in his lack of real talent. After all, isnt he really just a BBQ cook with attitude?

By the way they did a really good show once featuring some of the best up and coming French chefs, who won hands down.

Even though I have already posted a response here I must defend Chef Bobby Flay. He is a lot more than a bbq cook. In fact just eat at his restaurant Mesa Grill or Bolo and you will soon discover why he has been voted NYC's top chef for several years. He has a lot of talent but he also does have an attitude.(And as in my previous post I'll state again I've seen his attitude first hand because I was one of his line cooks for a year and a half)

I dont understand why anyone would be surprised that Flay lost.If you looked at the scores he not only lost he got his ass whooped by a chef that should not even have to put in the same league with flay.Arogant is one thing if you can back it up. I have eaten at both mesa and bolo and although the food was good it did not not vary to much from plate to plate. He basicly made a fool of himself with that display of stupidity, and if i were an american i would be disapointed that this is the chef you offered up as your iron chef haha

I would like to know how they choose the chef who would represent the United States for the "Iron Chef" show.
I also was very disapointed in Chef Flay's behaviour.
I have a five foot square butcher block in my kitchen and if anyone sat on it, well, they wouldn't be back to work for me.
The best part of the programe was the CIA trainees. I loved their passion and honesty.

I watched the show and after the first hour I was ready to go to bed. I can't stand Bobby Flay, can't watch his own program on the Food Network. But also the two hour show was milking it for all it was worth. I read the article in Time magazine a week before the show aired(I think you can read it at their website), and Flay is characterized as a whiner and presumptuous fool. I believe it.

The shear fact that Flay has drawn so much attention proves that he has done what he set out to do. Who cares if he won or lost on Iron Chef. The fact of the matter is more people are talking about him, and isn't that alot of chef's motives, to be talked about. Love him or hate him, I don't even know him but most importantly I know of him and if a resume crosses my desk and his name is on "past employers", That resume will stick out. Even more importantly, to Mr. Flay, I and many others, I'm sure, are going to be more inclined to plunk down some cash for one of his meals.

The fact is that Flay is an ass.
My own brief exposure to his personal lifestyle leads me to such a conclusion. What you folks have to say about his appearance on Iron Chef only backs up my opinion.
As for eating at his restaurants, or drooling over his former employees: to each their own. It's your time and your money. I'm sure Flay has harding working people who keep his places running while he is out annoying the world, so no reason to dis' them on his account.
Iron Chef is another reason I don't have cable tv.

I have made the mistake of being coarse on this site before and I apoligize but I just watched mr Flay's program for the first time last night and I have to agree with Yankee. Flay is an ASS!

Don't understand why Flay is still on the Food Network. I don't know anyone that likes him. I was rooting for the Iron Chef and glad that he won and that Flay showed the true self he is, #1 Asshole.

I can't read this post without saying something. It's killing me. I was the Chef de Cuisine at Mesa Grill for three years and Yankee is right, the hard working men and women in his restaurants are 100% responsible for his success. The great thing is, I could put his name or Mesa Grill on my resume, but don't have to in order to make more money in one day than he payed me in a week for the privlege of kissing his ass. I, like many others that have worked for him and other "celebrity" chefs, could give you all the dirt about his personality, behavior, personal life, etc. The fact is, his actions speak for themselves.
I would like to know why David Burke wasn't chosen as Iron Chef USA. The Japanese love him, his food is borderline genius, and his slowest restuarant will always gross more than Bolo.

The preperation of food to me is art. It also takes a lot of sole and love to produce a fine repast.
As for Bobby Flay I cannot imagine how he ever fell into the company of T.V. Culinary at all. I say Bobby stay in the back yard and leave the public to the real people
