In light of the weak economy and recent terrorist acts,
what does the future--short and long term--of the food
industry and culinary careers look like? Is anyone in
the business feeling the repercussions? I am
considering a culinary career, but not so sure now. Any
comments would be appreciated.

People have to eat. If your a cook you will always have work. Whether its at the high end of the salary scale or the low end depends only upon your skill level, where you choose to work, and how much your employers want to pay. There will always be people with money who want to eat out. There will always be students or patients who need to be fed. I'm in catering at a small college and we are busier than ever. 80K a month in sales since April, 01. Economy or no - there is always that top 1 percent who LOVE to entertain and have food catered in for everything.
