The throwing of octi goes back some years, as does the name Hockeytown.
Detroit, which was founded by the French, is one of the original six teams in the NHL.
The Lord Stanley Cup is the OLDEST playoff sport in North America,(I think)
Anyhow, The French like stinky things, and love to throw things,(like pots and pans) so I guess someone put the two together.
Now it's the Red Wings Mascot.
