Ok...so you talked me into a Hobart mixer. I am going Tuesday to bid on a 10-quart Hobart at a local auction. So...this is my questions for all of you that use this brand. What should be my highest bid? I can't find nothing on the web except one "beater"...(no pun intended) on E-bay for a little over $300.00 but it has 2 more days of auction time. I would think it would be worth much more...but...hey...what do I know? I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much and have a nice week. Pamie

How much do you want to spend, compared to a new one. On E-bay you can put a maximum bid and it will only go that high, then the bidding stops for you. You can put a maximum bid and if you win great, if not, another one will come along.
How about the shape it's in, any warraties?...etc.

DOnt forget when you bid on ebay if the item is being shipped you have to factor in that amount

Unless seller is paying for it. It will usually tell you in the description of the item; if not ask!!!

Sorry...I re-read my post here. It sounded as if I was bidding on Ebay. I am going to a LOCAL auction...to bid on this. I am not bidding on Ebay... So...does anyone got a round-about figure on what they run for a used one? Thanks...Pamie

It would be worth it to have a mechanical person go with you, you buy it as is!!!! Be sure it's mechanically sound and it has all the tools you need, paddle, whip, dough hook, check the oil...make sure it's not like tar!!!!!!
You can see the oil in a little round window on the side of the machine on top.

I live in a regressed area...I am hoping that not many know of the Hobart Mixers as all you fine folks educated me with...and get it for a "Steal"... But...I am thinking...I have seen the smaller ones go up to about two grand...so if it's in good shape...I am assuming it's worth about a grand or more... That is what I am curious about...what they are worth. I can't even find knew ones on the net in the 10-quart size, so I am thinking perhaps it's a older model...and should be careful. Either way...going Tuesday to look at it and make a bid... Hoping it will get into my hands...root for me Chefs... : ))) Pamie P.S. ChefManny...you mentioned the oil...I am assuming it should look rather clear...yes? Clean looking? What can I say...I am a lamer with these machines...but going on your advice here. Thanks again...

The oil will NOT be clear but a dark greenish color, if it's black like tar it needs to be checked (the machine) and definitely change the oil!!!

Oh...you are going to love this one. The auction was last Friday... I got another auction mixed up with this one. I am hating it... However, I know what to look for thanks to Chef Manny. I think...*smiles* Ok...thanks anyway folks... Got too much going on I suppose...and can't keep it straight. Ciao...Pamie P.S. Thanks "Baker" for your help too. The one site I have been at...the 5 quart one for $1700.00 but the other one...the ten quart one for $1200.00 was a good deal...Now that I lost out on that auction I will need to start looking again. Geez...ruined my Sunday... I really need a mixer...and had hopes for this one at the local auction. Oh well... Anyone selling it may send me the site addresses or if you have one for sale...you can let me know...to my e-mail address. Just click on my Winddove name above and the e-mail is there...
