I’m looking for some opinions on what shoes you like for kitchen work and why? The long hours in the kitchen in regular work boots is killing me. One guy I work with likes the Danko clogs another the Sanita clogs and still another those plastic Birkin stocks.
Your Opinions will probably confuse the Sh*t out of me but lets try it anyways, I worked a 21 hour shift yesterday cooking turkey and the fixings for a so called gourmet grocery store and my feet are killing me and my head is a little off.
I probably will not be able to get to a computer for a couple of days, so if you have any ?’s I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Happy Thanksgiving

Berkies all the way. Ten years ago I could barely get out of bed my feet hurt so bad. From the day I started wearing Berkinstock Clogs I have never had that problem. Berky Clogs also last longer than any other shoe I ever used for work.
I use the Superpro Clogs and change the plastic insole they come with for a cork insole.

I use the birki profi's. I started wearing them about 6 years ago and doubt I'll ever switch. A pair has generally lasted me about a year, a lot longer than every other kitchen shoe I've tried. I weigh between 260 and 270 and shoes had been an issue until I started wearing the plastic clogs. They take a little while to get used to and never try to push a car in the snow while wearing them. You can't expect the marriage of hippie culture and petroleum products to be perfect.

Yeah, Ice and Berki Clogs don't mix, but you can walk across a cement floor covered with grease and and soapy water and not worry about slipping.

I love the stuff from Shoes For Crews
Plus you can wear them for 60 days and if you dont like them you can return them.
I have done that a few time when i tried different models.

I wear Doc Martens, the kind with the really thick soles. I'm on my feet 11-12 hours at a stretch, and these things are amazingly comfortable. They're very expensive, but they last forever.

yes, but what do you wear when you work graveyard in a mountain lodge in -10o? I froze my giblets off working a year in there. only time I got warm was when I stuck my face near the oven, the owner liked to keep the back door open and the breeze in the kitchen was brutal, Ever cook in a parka?

Yes i do know what its like to cook in a parka
One place i worked ,during the winter it was so cold whenever I creamed butter in a mixer i had to keep a torch burining under the bowl or the butter got hard.
the kitchen was colder then the walkin box.

I used to use some brand from France sold by a co. from NY, can't remember either!!!; they only came in a blue and beige. They were the only true grease resistant sole I ever used, that's why I liked them. They stopped making the high tops and I looked for another brand....for a long time.
I tried Shoes For Crew, sizing was not that good, spent $40-45 in shoe returns!!!! Soles wore out quickly!!!!
I started using Red Wing boots, they are awesome, I still use them, they are grease resistant, they tune-up the shoes, free!!! (New laces, clean them, ect.)
Good value, good shoe, good support! Worth the $$$!!!!!

chefmanny, I believe the shoes you were referring to are made by Bragard. I used them for years. Ugly as sin, but so very comfortable. Online for 95.00. I agree with the Red Wing Shoes as well. Pricey, but good service.
About four or so years ago I and a few other chefs at the catering company I was chef at modeled shoes for the Red Wing Catalog. The shoes I got from the photo shoot were the best yet-Free!
