Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all.
I guess you are all working away at this time of year!
I'm lucky, I teach and I'm off for two weeks enjoying the Holidays.
Whatever you may be doing, remember to make time for your loved ones, especially your children or parents they'll be there when the job decides IT does not need you any more, they'll be there when your co-workers are not, they'll be there the times that count but;.......they won't be there forever!!!!! So enjoy them now!!!!
As much as we may think jobs are important, they are not and, there's always another one down the road......if you know your craft.
What the hell is he rambling about now?, you may be asking; well let me tell you this story.
On December 12th Marquis Murray, a 20 year old former student of mine died, he died because he did not have insurance, he was a diabetic and he could not go to the doctor for a while. Eventually he went into a hospital that takes anyone coming through the doors. He was admitted and a few hours later he was dead, his life was snuffed out just that quickly, before he went into the hospital he visited a few family members and co-workers, so as to say good-bye, which he did not know was coming.
He was given some insulin that his body rejected.
The autopsy results are not back yet.
This young man was a man's man, he was always smiling, happy, always a kind word for everyone; he was the exception to the rule in teen agers.
He had graduated J & W a few months back, he was now attending Florida Inter national University's school of Hospitality Management, which I recommended since I graduated from there!
He left behind a brother two sisters, his parents and, many uncles and coousins.
His mother called me to attend the funeral when this happened, and she told me Marquis always talked about me and that "I" had made an impression on her son's life, I said to her, Ms. Murray, so as did your son to my life!
He truly had, he reminded me of me when I was that age, not a care in the world and the world WAS mine!!!
I could never imagine the pain of burying a child of yours or mine!!!! Especially when your child is as close to perfect as I had ever seen.

A Very Special Holiday Recipe:
1 cup of water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup of brown sugar
lemon juice
4 large eggs
nuts
1 bottle Jose Cuervo
2 cups of dried fruit
Sample the Cuervo to check quality.
Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again.
To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and
drink.
Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer.
Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy
bowl.
Add one teaspoon of sugar.
Beat again.
At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK.
Try another cup .... just in case
Turn off the mixerer thingy.
Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in
the cup of dried fruit.
Pick the frigging fruit off floor.
Mix on the turner.
If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers
just pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the Quervo to check for tonsisticity.
Neaxt, sift two cups of salt. Or something.
Who giveshz a bit.
Check the Jose Cuervo
Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one table.
Add a spoon of sugar, or somefing. Whatever
you can find.
Greash the oven.
Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to
fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Finally, throw the bowl through the window.
Finish the Jose Cuervo.

I'm sorry for your loss of a friend and colleague. Please accept our condolences.
Thanks for reminding me and all of us of our priorities. If it wasn't for my family, I don't know what I'd do. They love and accept me even when the job is sh*tty to me.
Thank God for our loved ones! They keep us grounded and sane in a frequently crazy profession.

Manny,
There is that old saw that no one on his deathbed says he wishes he's spent more time at the office. How true and pertinent at this time of year for those of us in this business!
My condolences for your loss. It is so sad to lose one in whom we see so much hope, and joy, and potential! Last year one of my continously smiling students killed himself. I didn't know that he was clinically depressed. It was a blow to everybody, especially the other students! If he had only been able to see the joy he brought to others, it may have made a difference.
On a lighter note, Happy New Year to you all. I wish you a year of prosperity and the leisure time to enjoy it. God bless you all!
