Hi All!
Well our kitchen started the new year with a bang,...or a smack anyway. Yesterday our GM got into a scuffle with the exec chef from the upscale restaurant that is also a part of our hotel complex. It's a little fuzzy, but the gist of the conflict started over a vacuum hose the chef wanted to borrow from our kitchen but couldn't find. He accused our G.M. of hiding the hose from him, and they exchanged words. It ended up with the Exec chef saying words along the lines of "If this happens again I'll punch your @#!%* face in!" Whereupon the GM rolls up his sleeves and PUSHES the chef. It's on! Two cooks quickly separated them before any blows were landed.
Nothing has been done to either apart from an hour long discussion with the F & B manager with our GM. Not sure what, if anything, was said to the chef.
My question is this: How would you or your employer(s) handle a situation like this? Two mangagment level employees getting physical seems extremely unprofessional in the least, and grounds for dismissal at most.
Opinions?

Well if they where hourly employees they would probably be fired in a heartbeat.
but since there not, most likly they would get written up/suspened and the letters would stay in there personal files thus effecting there yearly review/raise and resulting in termination if it happened again.
When I worked at marriott and asst. mgr got into a shoveing match with an employee, the employee got fired the mgr got a letter in his file. it basicly followed him every where effecting his promotions and his raise, he told me a few years later that it would have been better if he was fired.. that letter realy stop his rise within the mgnt ranks.. while others we promoted he stayed right where he was...
His performance raises where allways 2-3% less than everyone else in his unit no matter how good his unit performed ...
