So I'm here at home and I'm making a salad and open the fridge and WHAMO !...no salad dressing.
So I look at what I got to throw together and start putting stuff in a bowl.
This stuff is great !
Now... 1) is it a pain in the butt to market this stuff or what?
2) How much do you think I would need? (money)
3) Is it hard to sell to places like Vons, Ralphs, ect ?
The Name....Bachelor's Salad Dressing
The lable is gonna have a photo of my Dog, Elwood on it.
Some of the profit will go to NO KILL Animal Shelters...
Let me know what you know.
Thanks.

O.K....now this is it....I am heading to the hills......the end is surely on our doorstep....a pastry chef/actor who now wants to market a bachelors salad dressing........ketchup, beer and garlic powder...close to russian dressing..I guess....I say make a bunch and let the local pizza joints give it away as a promotion..and see how it flies

thats a good idea.
set up a little table, serve it with a little lettuce.
yea, not bad.
Oh and no ketchup, no beer, and the only garlic is whats in the stuff I added.
Its more an oil and vinager.
But it good, really!
I know, it sounds weird.
I'm going to send the stuff I added to a lab and find out whats in them.
Then I'm going to find a bottle to use.
And a lable.
and then find out what the health laws say.
Maybe I can just sell it outright.
Take 3-5 % of the top.
'em I dreaming or what?????
Oh and I'm dropping the "salad" part, 'cause I think it will make a good marinade too.

I ate some last night and I'm not sick yet!!!!!!!
HA!

"I ate some last night and I'm not sick yet!!!!!!!"

What a testimonial! I'll take a case!

seriously, tho, the test-marketing thing is a VERY important step. when you give it away, include a little postcard, they can check off a list you create, include some comments, a "real" testimonial (something more than "this totally did not suck") and ask them to mail it back to you.

believe me, if you drop $250 on R&D and get bad results, it's much better to have given it a good try with a small investment.

it's very hard to get shelf-space at any of the major grocery stores, but give out samples to friends, family, restaurants, caterers, whoever can give you feedback, and then set up an online store. Very little overhead means more profit for you!

Chefjoannam, hey, do you shop at trader joes, the one on Santa Monica Blvd. 'cause I think I've seen you there.
I'm in LA too.

"...as their eyes met over the huge endcap of Pirate's Booty™, she glanced at the contents of his shopping cart as if she was peering into his soul.

What kind of chef buys canned soup?, she thought, and it was at that point she realized she had already seen far too much..."

tee hee hee...nope, never been there. I'm not a T.J.'s person, but not for any particular reason. If you want to stalk me, you can find me at Bay Cities, nibbling at the torn off end of my still-warm ciabatta.

bay cities ?
what is that ?
please, try not to use the word "stalking"
I'm very sensitive to it.
I've been stalked, it was very scary.
she was scary.
...."warm Ciabatta"....do they bake there ?
I'm thinking about getting back into the shop, part time, at night.

It's an Italian deli on lincoln in Santa Monica. all the bread is baked onsite. it's fantastic, and I love that it's convenient. My husband's office is right up the street from there. Go to the deli counter and order a "grandmother", with the works. yummmmmmmm. After the 25th, I'll have a day off. Perhaps we could network over some cannoli?

Perhaps we could network over some cannoli?

I'm not a working Pastry Chef, so "networking" is not something I could help with.
But I will check out "Bay Cities"
And I will see if the Cannoli's are any good, but I think I've had the best. (Yonkers, New York)
Thanks.
I guess your husband does not work in the food biz....?
