I keep my pastas in heavy glass jars on an east-facing windowsill. I recently opened one and noticed a rancid smell. Is it possible for it to go bad???

Anything can spoil.
It all depends on how it's stored.

If it smells different than what you expect, it probably is bad. Best case scenario, you're going to eat something that takes funny. Worst case scenario, you get sick.
I would rather throw food out than make myself or anyone I fed ill.
