If you are already a chef at a five star hotel, does it really make a difference to have the CEC certification? Just asking.

To some people certification means a lot to some they mean less.

The ACF keeps promising they will market certification in a way that will make those letters mean very much more but for now few people outside the industry (one could say inside the industry) even know what they mean.

Even with certification all you can tell about a chef is that they have a certain amount of experience and passed the management, sanitation and nutrition course. It never says what kind of chef they are.

Thanks for the insight Tim. I will keep that in mind. It just doesn't seem feasible to make the time for the cert process and manage a resort at the same time.

JTW,
I personally think it is worth the time to get certified. Not only for yourself but for the industry. Not only does this qualify you to teach students from culinary classes for credit but it pushes us one step closer to being recognized as professionals. This is just my 2 cents. I absolutely understand about time constraints and things like family etc. You might be surprized how far along you already are in the process .You are probably a step away from CWC.
Good luck to you either way, and remember to pass along knowledge.

The classes are available on line and by distance learning.
Here's a link to a list of sources-
http://acfchefs.org/certify/crtsours.html

This allows you to do the courses when you can without having to travel.

The local ACF chapter should also have a certification chairperson. Their function is to help you get organized with information and documentation needed for certification.

Here is a link to the Chapter Directory to help you find one close to you. Give them a call.

Hope this helps.
