I am very interested some products that I haven't seen before and need some help understanding. Since several people here are very fluent in French I am hoping you might take a moment and interpet for me?

Colorants Liposolubles

These are dry colors to use with chocolate. Does it say mix 1/2 couverture and 1/2 (their product)?

Another item is gold powder and I would like to know if it's edible? Does it also say use alchol to apply?

It says... Important: Ce produit repond aux normes europeennes.
It also says.... En le diluant avec de l'alcool: l' appliquer avec un pinceau.

At the end of a products description it says "75,00 F. ht" (what does that mean?)

Last product is also for coloring chocolate, it comes in bottles. Could you tell me the description they are giving in English please?

Beurre De Cacao Colore'

Simplifiez vous le travail grace au beurre de cacao colore pret a l'emploi qui assurera une parfaite homogeneite a la coloration.

Vous pouvez utiliser ce produit de diverses facon:

I'll try to find a french student later if I buy any of these, to help me with instructions. Understanding these few lines of french would be most helpful to me, thank-you.

W. I hope this will help you. I translated each paragraph in the order you wrote them.

"Oil soluble colourings
Method: Melt some cocoa butter, add powdered colouring and mix well with a paintbrush to dissolve all the colour particles in the oil.
Mix 50% couverture with 50% cocoa butter and add the colour mixture."

"Gold powder
This product was manufactured according to the european standards.
Dilute with alcohol and apply with a paintbrush."

The "75.00F. ht" is the price, 75 francs, "ht" stands for hors taxe= without tax.

"Coloured cocoa butter.
Make your work easier with ready to use coloured cocoa butter which will give a homogenous finish to the colouring.
You can use this product in different ways:
Straight use with a paintbrush.
Spraying with a spray pistol or airbrush.
To colout the chocolate.
To colour your creams..."

I hope this will help you. If you need any further translations feel free to e-mail me, I'll be happy to help you.

Helene, THANK-YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!

I have one other question, please. I don't understand how the franc relates to the dollar. Aprox. how much American money is 75,00 franc?

By Mikeh (Mikeh) on Thursday, April 06, 2000 - 08:22 am: Edit

75 francs is exactly 11 dollars. The exchange rate is around 14.7 US cents per franc. I know because I bought some yesterday.

W., when using gold powder for edible pieces or decorations, make sure it's labeled non-toxic. Sweet Inspirations manufactures that type of gold powder.

Yes I realize that. Thanks for the tip on Sweet Inspirations!

You also don't have to mix the gold dust with alcohol. I apply it directly to acetate and then spread melted chocolate on top to make ribbons et... $11 is a good price- I pay $15- it lasts for a long time though.
About food colors, the French Pastry Chefs that I know always say that the US has the best food colors and mixers (meaning kitchenaid and hobarts).
