WebFoodPros.com: The Bakers Dozen: is it worth the move?
By Mami579 (Mami579) on Friday, March 30, 2007 - 01:15 pm: Edit

I am a baker. I'm originally from Buffalo and for the last 4 yrs I've been living in Alabama. I got a temp job as a baker in a local hospital and after a few months was hired on permanently and have been there for the last 3yrs. I have been a student of this industry since I was 13 and Im at a point in my life where I need to move on and move up. Im seriously considering moving to Vegas for the experience and also after a year or two I wanted to enroll in the Art Institutes baking and pastry degree program (thats the only degree granting program for baking in that state) to make me more marketable later in life.

I've heard that the service industry in Vegas won't pay me but maybe $6-8 an hour because the jobs are so competitive which bothers me because Vegas is so expensive, Im not sure if I could live off that salary, I've also been told that I won't be able to find a job unless I move there first and even so it's who I know (which is no one currently) not neccessarily what I know. If there is anyone who has experienced relocating to another city/state especially Vegas, please give me some advice as to how I should handle this situation and if it helps at all Im 24, single and no kids. Thanks in advance
