The The Bakers Dozen: Shiney Cookies!
By Lace (Lace) on Saturday, January 08, 2000 - 12:30 am: Edit

HELP!!!! I saw the other day, on a cooking show, an icing for cookies that was shiney, the lady did not use the standard "Royal Icing" recipe (which I tried and it does not come out shiney, even colored, it's very dull) she boiled some of the ingredients, dipped her cookies, then embellished them and they looked terrific... I am a housewife and "bake" all of my presents and would really appreciate some help on making some Valentine "SHINEY" Cookies :) :) :) :)

Thank You in advance! :)

it sounds like fondant but it's not boiled. i think wilton makes it powdered or i have an easy recipe that works pretty good. you can adjust the consistency by adding a little water.

6c powd sugar(add some cocoa if you wantchocolate)
1/2 c water
2 tbl light corn syrup
1 tsp extract
colors if wanted,(i wouldn't use liquid)
mix water & syrup. add to sugar in a pan,mix well before heating. heat over low heat. Never heat over 100f(it will loose it shine & can burn).remove from heat & add flavor/color. you can do this in a double boiler so you can keep it over hot water while using. cover w plastic to keep heat in while its holding. i like to add coffee liquor or espresso. use this instead or in the measured water. i hope this helps.
