WebFoodPros.com: Caterers Corner: How Much To Ask For?: Archive through August 28, 2001

Thanks guys for the input. I appreciate it. It helps a lot.

And Joeyt, my, my, don't we sound bitter and unappreciated. Maybe you should do something you like. I wish I did have a sugar daddy and then I wouldn't have to bust my ass 6 days a week to pay my rent, utilities, bills and take care of my kid as a single parent. Some people read too much into what folks say and think. My advice to you, worry about what you do and not what I do. If expressing love for my line of work makes me a scab then so be it. The whole reason for asking for advice in the first place is because I want to be well paid. NOT take pennies only. Thank God I don't have to depend on people like you for my living because you probably pay pennies to hard working folks who need to make a living. Very nice to assume I have a sugar daddy. I'd make you an offer to take the job but you can't afford it.

Joeyt, I apologize for that last remark I made about offering you the sugar daddy position. It was rude and uncalled for. One rare moment in time where I allowed myself to get pissed about what someone thought about me. You're not the first to make that assumption and you won't be the last. Something I've found that women have to deal with in this profession.

Again, thanks to everyone else who offered advice. I've submitted my salary request to my chef and he's crunching numbers to see if he can make it work.

Ask for what you want!!! that's the bottom line.
At some point you will say I can't afford to work for that. Period!!!

To joeyt, read this.
what was that!? take it easy, we have all been there, where she is now, by getting good advice now she helps keep the pay rate high for all us woring stiffs. She's been around the block, she's not going to sell herself short, but man, don't turn people off to asking for advice. go baste something.
Peace.

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd update you on the salary thing. Based on the input I got here, I asked for 100k, the signing bonus, benefits and a car. I told them that I'd settle for a Durango 4x4 fully loaded.

When they finished wiping the tears of laughter out of their eyes, they told me to be totally honest about what I wanted, etc. So I asked for 38k with benes. I figured that was reasonable. They agreed. I'm happy, they're happy and again I appreciate the input.
