Do any of you offer a discount for children? We've had a request or two lately for childrens plates and menus. We're looking into possibly offering this for a client who will be having quite a few children at her reception. Do you offer more kid friendly dishes or just a discount? Thanks.

Try to avoid it all! If they press get them chicken tenders, something simple. This can turn into a nightmare, especially if they have alot of kids. Sometimes the kids eat more then the adults, no discounts!

On plated parties we offer Chicken Tenders with fries and Burgers, for children 12 and under at a reduced price. I havn't ever had anyone order Burgers.
For buffets. they get the kids price.
Kids under 12 rarely eat more than adults they'er to busy running around.
Being hospitable pays off in the long run.

We don't charge for children under 3. Children 3-10 years we charge 1/2 of the regular menu price. We have prepared "kid type" meals for events which have 8 children of more.

I set up a little "Kid" table.
chips, corn dogs, chicken tenders, cheese (kids like cheese) I charge 60% of what I charge for the adults per kid. because you still have lots of hidden costs. I am like Manny, avoid at all costs ! it is a extra hassle.

I don't usually charge for an extra plate for a small child. The
goodwill is usually made up for in the tip. For parties that want
kids' portions, I go half price + plate charge. For large numbers
of kids, I do have a kids" menu. I've gotten more happy kids with
hotdogs and mac+cheese than I care think about, but hey,
they're kids. The grownups that pay the bill are ALWAYS happy
when the kids are happy.

Not to mention a much lower food cost on the Mac and cheese, since you are either discounting or comping the kid's meal....
Nice ideas.
