I am setting up an ice sculpture mold of a bride and groom (26" high, 21" wide and 13" deep) for a wedding in a week. I need to know how long will it take to freeze and what is the easiest way to get it out of the mold. Also, how long is the "lifespan" after it is taken out of the freezer?

Hi Teresa I'm assumming it's a plastic mold, commercially made, it will take at least 48 hours in a household chest freezer, set at 0.degrees F. it may take a little less in a commercial walkin freezer, but you also don't want to freeze it to fast because of internal cracking, assumming it's a plastic mold, which can't be reused, cutting off the plastic along the seam with a sharp knife or razor cutter, both of which are very dangerous, be carefull. It will last probably about 4-6 hours out of the freezer, depending on the temp. of the room, most weddings get quite warm with body heat, so your looking at 4 hours from removal of the mold, which I suggest you do on-site. Allow 15 minutes to remove the mold. It will still look okay after the 4 hour period , but will show definate signs of deterioration. Good Luck Greg Breland
