Buy good coffee grinds.!
Don't go cheap on the beans and expect good joe.
Bj's sells Hawaiin Kona blend for $6lb, its very smooth, or get French roast if you want jet fuel.
Just expect to pay at least $6lb for decent joe.
I use the big 100 cup percolator at weddings and tranfer the joe into silver samovars for service.

Thanks .should I have a different grind? how much coffee do you put in 100 cup pot??I am the manager of a high school cafeteria but we do an honor roll breakfast 3 times a year and go through 4 100 cup pots of regular and 2 decaf and I cant seem to get it to taste good.it is either too strong or to bitter. I have scrubbed the pots.

If the bottom of the pot is full of coffee grinds its too fine, too course produces very weak coffee and that doesn't seem to be what you're experiencing.
If you look carefully, the directions are inside the pan where you place the grinds. But I just do it by eye.
Good coffee starts at $5 lb and up.
