bubble wedding cake

Hi. I'm getting married in May and I picked out a wedding cake from Martha Stewart's Summer Wedding magazine. It has bubbles around the bottom made from blown sugar. I can't find anyone in my small Kansas town who knows how to make them. Does anyone know where I can find instructions? If I do find instructions, is this the sort of thing someone could teach themselves? And if I can't find someone around here to make them, could they survive a trip? The nearest city is 2 1/2 hours away. I also have an aunt who will be flying in from San Francisco, and she could probably find someone out there to make them if they could survive the plane trip.

My second choice is decorated with fondant, but I've heard it doesn't taste good. I gather fromt the other posts on this forum that this is not necessarily true, but the only people around here who make wedding cakes aren't exactly star chefs -- more like Midwestern housewives. Think it would be safe?

Thanks.

Karen
