I had responded to the inquiry about the origination of the german chocolate cake and a couple of items were incorrect. The name of the cookbook I got the information out of is called "Texas Home Cooking" written by Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jamison. The information is on page 522 and is as follows - "This cake is so popular in Texas we assumed for years that it had roots in the state's German population. It turns out the name comes from the mild dark chocolate made orginally by a company called German's, later acquired by Baker's, which was then absorbed into the General Food conglomerate. In 1957 a Dallas newspaper printed a recipe for a chocolate cake that suggested using Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate. Regional sales zoomed, and General Foods began promoting "German Chocolate Cake" nationally."
