Sorry I don't have any sage advise regarding the rentals or books. Just wanted to let you know that there is someone out here.
On the rental issue, though, it does seem to me that if you had purchased the equipment you would have to build in something to your price to cover your capital cost. Why would the same not apply to rentals (presuming you're not renting every little thing). The price you pay for rental represents part of the vendor's capital cost, plus expenses plus profit. You should be reimbursed for that.
