Re: Serving SizesPosted by Carl Jones on April 20, 19101 at 01:37:19 : In Reply to: Serving Sizes posted by Marsha on April 17, 19101 at 17:46:16 : : My brother-in-law just got his license for catering and is putting in a bid for a party of 250 people. They want hamburgers and hot dogs and a few vegi burgers, which they are not sure how many vegi burgers they want, potato or macaroni salad, green salad, fruit bowl,Baked beans and he is to supply all of the utensils and condiments This will be his first gig if he gets it. Do we figure a certain serving size per person on the salads and beans to get the total amount to bring? Thanks for anyones response.
Now, tell me something about his business. He is starting from scratch? Starting a catering business is extremely challenging. 97% will not succeed 5 years... Problem is whenever you open a catering business, on day one, there is no business. Wedding receptions are booked more than 4 months in advance, most cookout are booked 3 weeks in advance... etc... how does he plan on supporting himself the first 3 to 5 years while he builds business?? I started mine from my restaurant and eventually was able to split it off. People are leary hiring caterers without experience... for good reasons. I would love to track a caterer from scratch to success. I wish him all the best.
