: Hi again everyone, I have another question for those who are already doing personal cheffing; do clients ever ask "what type of certification or licencing (sp?) you have to do this?" Do you have to have a license to be a personal chef? Do you have to be a culinary school graduate? My husband says yes, I disagree. I would feel funny if someone asked me and I don't have a icense. For those who do or don't, do you get or lose customers because of it? Thanks everyone!!

Great questions!

The personal chef industry is based on not needing certification or licensing (that's right now, who knows what might happen in the future). I believe there are many personal chefs who have no culinary school at all, but are good and great cooks in their own right. Of course, being a personal chef is a natural extension for chefs and cooks who are tired of the restaurant industry but want to keep using their skills in some way that is entrepreneural in nature (that's me!)

Because pcs work out of the clients homes, there is no licensing required. You wouldn't need to feel funny if someone asked you about a license because 1) there is no licensing to obtain, and 2) you are there to fill one of the most basic needs of humans, i.e. produce good home cooked food! I've never had anyone ask me for a license.

There you have it!

Have you picked a name for your business?
Happy cheffing!

Sharon
