I tend to develop lesson plans as needed for new material. The first issue is
to ask yourself what the student needs to get out of the lesson in the end. Next,
list steps needed to get there.

Once you have your objectives in place (what the *learner* needs to do), you can
start to work out how to present the lesson, how to evaluate whether or not the student
has acheived what s/he needs to do etc.

Industry advisory committees are quite happy to let you know what they expect from your
students. Building a list of outcomes and objectives is 3/4 the work. I think you can
successfully use another's lesson plans but how you deliver will be ultimately a function of
your experience and personality.
