American citizens cannot legally work in France ..normally , neither can French work here, getting work visas might not be possible.
The French WILL make it impossible for you to get a French drivers license and in general make it difficult. But as long as you have enough money you can always work for free.
The school will probably hook you up in that regard and you might be able to make some cash under the table.
I've also heard from returning students (not culinary students) they couldn't get a phone installed.
