I wonder what people don't like about fondant, its just sugar.
You could use rolled white chocolate, actually tastes more sickly than fondant but sounds elegant (its not).
Or a better choice might be rolled marzipan (fondant/almond paste).

Fondant, properly done, requires more skill than the other 2.

Hey, who's cake IS this anyway. Do what =you= like.
