First thing is find out if it is legal to cater from your home. I don't know of any states in the USA. Unless, you convert your kitchen or garage into a commercial kitchen meeting all of the codes.
If you are going to cater from home illegally, then most of the professionals here would not be willing to help you do something that is going to get you in big trouble.

Be prepared to spend about $50,000.00 and to work for about 5 years to establish yourself (it is more difficult to market a home catering business as the majority of people will not have the confidence in your professionalism)
