Just the water that it is boiled in which is discarded after each use. Some of the liquid (seasoned water)can be used in the chafing dish if you wish. The "mini ears" of corn can be easily handled with 1 (one) hand. Everything else is forkable. I did not mention that I provide either a choice of cole slaw or toss salad with this item.
