Hi Shella,
In response to your request for Insurance to do catering, I used an independant insurance agent that specializes in commercial insurance. The company he has me set up with is called Environmental & Causalty Insurance Company. I am not sure what their phone number is but you can look that up for your area. You can also try The Hartford Insurance Company. Things that you'll need to start your policy in motion are a sellers permit and business license. You'll also be asked about how much you'll expect to make in the coming year. This is how they determine your premium. Don't let them try to estimate your expected gross because they'll always figure it way too high and give you a premium you probably can't afford if you're just starting out. Once you have the insurance, catering halls will want to see the policy, a business license a food handlers permit to ensure that they themselves will not be held responsible for anything that may go wrong. If your friend is only doing this for your wedding and is not looking to get back into business, this may be very costly for just one wedding. I'm not sure where you are located but you can give me a call and we can dicuss it further if you'd like. I'm in the Oceanside, California area and my number is: (760) 726.4867.

James
