: : My sister and I are starting a catering and event planning business. The Health Dept. in Maryland said we must have a commerical kitchen, but I keep seeing all these books and and information about starting a catering business at home. Please enlighten me.

Dear Faye, rely on your local health dept's regulations, regardless of what those "how to..." books tell you, most areas of the country require that caterers be in a approved, licensed & inspected kitchen facility, and in most areas that would not be in or on a private residence (now mind you that some areas allow licensed, inspected & approved kitchens in private homes or on private property, but these areas are few & far between)....thats just the reality of the facts......sam sears, cec
