: I have been reading through the post here and have become seriously confused. I currently cater on site and was planning on converting my basement into a catering kitchen. At the beginning of this year I contacted my county Health Dept.(Gwinnett County, GA) about catering from home and the information that I was given was different from what everyone else is saying about it being illegal. They stated to me that it had to be a seperate kitchen from my family kitchen. Did I miss something?

I am confused as to what you are talking about. What information have you read here that is different than the information you were given?

In many (most) states, you cannot get a foodservice permit for a home based catering business. In some states, mine (TN) and yours (GA), you can if the kitchen is separate from the family's kitchen plus a bunch of other codes.... What is it you are confused about???

And do you currently carry liability insurance?? What "on site" is it you cater from?

Thanks,

Carl
