: I'm currently a student at the California Culinary Academy and am exploring some possibilities after I graduate. I am thinking of going into catering, and I know it can be very profitable especially during the holidays. But what happens after that? Do I just wait for the next special occasion or are there other things I can get into??

Of course it's busier during the holidays, but there are ways to supplement your income. You can cook or bake for coffee shops, or other food service companies with limited kitchens and staff. Look into the home meal replacement industry. I know someone locally who has built a very successful business doing just that. She sends menus out every week, one or two entrees per day, her customers decide which days they want to purchase and she delivers it to them.

I occasionally assist another chef I know who is busier than I am. She appreciates the extra trained, experienced hands when she's really swamped. I make extra money and get to keep learning, which is important to me.
