: : Hi! I am part of a three member team from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, doing our final year project on the catering industry in Singapore.
: : We would like to find out and seek your opinions on:
: : 1)What would be a good way to rate catering companies?
: Answers from Carl :
: KFC calls themselves in the "catering business" then you have an upscale caterer, and then a sign on Pizza Hut that says, "We Cater"..... Before you can rate them
: you need to classify them.... Kroger, a food store chain, is a wedding caterer.. they bake cakes and wing dings..., they HAVE a market or they wouldnt be doing it
: Yet my clients dont call Kroger to compare prices with mine.... and there are caterers in other markets who cater above my head...
I guess in our case Catering Company would mean off-premise caterer whose primary business is to cater food to locations specified where the head count is at least 25 or more. Also the fare would include both food and beverage and the target segments would include household, corporate and industrial catering. More of catering services than a company.
Hope this new definition is better than my last.:)
: : 2)What kinds of standards are de facto?
: Standards that should be de facto are food safety, protection and ability.
: : 3)Do expectations of people, who use different companies, differ with each company? Which matters more? The food quality, price, the company brand name, reliability or other factors?
: : and most importantly,
: That question is difficult to answer due to the above answers... Ms Kennedy has differents standards than Roy and Sharon Jean.....
: The price matters more to cheapskates and the quality matters more to Dr. Rosenburgs first daughter's first wedding.... brand name doesnt play much of a role.. reliability should matter to all
: you have alot to worry about more than the quality or price when your caterer doesnt show up or is late or runs out of food...
:
: : 4)What do you think are the factors that will make or break a catering company.
: Disappointing the guests, embarrassing the hosts, food borne illness outbreak,
: Lousy service, running out of food, drunk caterers urinating on the buffet...
: : I guess most of this questions are quite universal, thus any help would be REALLY appreciated!
