: : Hi folks. I am seriously considering attending the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. If anyone has comments about the school, program, job placement, etc., please let me know about it before I take the jump.

: : I started at WCI in February and have already learned more than I thought I would. But like any other school you only get as much out of it as you put in. It's a very intensive one-year course, average class time is 6-7 hours per day, plus more study at home. Basically, a two year course in 12 months, with only an occasional week off. If this is what you're looking for, WCI may be for you. CK

HI i AM A GRADUATE OF WCI-- CLASS OF MARCH 95-- I was fresh out of high school- and just turned 18-- never been to portland-- had no family there -- and came from a town with pop 3000. So needless to say " scary situation" NOPE- I had found ,my home away from home-- and it was the best experience of my life next to having my daughter. Anyways I did go to make a career out of it and they did find job,
but I am a stay at home mom-- and I still love to cook for my whole family-- and the nutrition aspects were phenomenal-- I loved it there -- if he is still there-- chef taylor changed my life-- he gave me more confidence than any teacher has
I started with him in 101 with a low C and came out with an A+ -- i hated college -- attended cal poly san luis obispo -- and some others and if you really love to cook you will make it with flying colors -- like i finally did -- but if you don't want to clean and sanitize you r life away it's not for you-- you will get dirty and sweaty and extremely tired and you feet will feel like they will fall off and you will love every minute of it.
