Well, no one I know, in this business is: confussed, upset, thinks they made the right or wrong choice, at times, etc.!!!
Long hours, little money (at first), working week ends, holidays, oh, yuk. Then why do we do it? The love, passion, compliments, power, respect, just to name a few.
I wasn't much older than you when I first went into this business. It is 27 years later and I have few regrets.
I didn't like leaving my family for such long periods of time, but, I sure did make it up to them with extended holidays, new sports cars, summer home, etc.
If you play your cards right, you can be very comfortable in this industry. Not everyone, but, the very best.
You have your age on your side. If you try it for a couple of years and want to fall back on your secondary profession, then, do it.
By the way, if you have the leadership qualities, that you need, you won't take anyone's advice. You will JUST DO IT!

: Hey,
: I have a serious problem. I'm in my second year at UNC as a computer science major, and I've been thinking about moving into the culinery field. I've been in the food industry as a line cook for two years. Every time I relocate to a new restaurant I move to the top within a matter of months. Now I'm only 20 so I can't move into managment, but I also love to cook.
: Here's the real problem though. I'm in love with the food industry , Programming languages, and a beautiful intelligent girl. I don't know if I want to put her through being alone at night and on the weekends. It's pretty tough as it is now. Money for a good school is not a problem. It's my future with her I'm worried about. Any and all opinions will be greatly appreciated!
: Thanks :)
