The hours and days worked are very straining on any relationship, not just in foodservice but in many other professions these days.
After a few years of experience it is possible to move into areas of the business that are more family friendly such as Corporate/School Feeding, Hospitals, Airlines and even in some big cities Union jobs in Hotels.
It all depends on how flexible your friend is.
You should discuss the issue with her, find out how she feels about it and go from there.
