I assume you're talking about either Herry Ford CC or Schoolcraft College. I recommend trying to get into Schoolcraft College in Livonia and taking some courses there first. This will give you a good background to start with. You may decide to complete their Associate Degree program in Culinary Arts Management. If so and you feel like you need more Baking and Pastry education you may opt for a 4 year degree from Johnson & Wales or the CIA. These are the best schools for a Bacchelors Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. Most people find that either Practical experience in the bakeshop or an Associate Degree paired with experience is all you need to succeed. I recommend going for an Associate Degree then deciding if you need to continue your education. I live near Detroit, Michigan, and there is a good culinary program at a community college near by. I was thinking about getting an associates degree there, and then going to an institute and study to become a pastry chef. I want to know if that is a good idea. Also, how long would it take to study at an institute to become a pastry chef, and what ones would you reccommend?
