school or no school?

Is it better to go to a culinary school or just work at restaurants to gain experience? if so how do you go about getting work with no degree? does it make a difference which school, whether it's a community college or a private(expensive!)one?
I have a Baccelors in food and nutrition, how can I incorporate that into cooking? any advice will be great! any info about getting experience in Europe will also be great.
