: Having reached the ripe age of 38 and feeling like if I'm going to do a U-turn from my present career the time is pretty much now... I've been entertaining the notion of attending a culinary school. So I'm starting with the basic questions: How much money can you make? How much education do you need? How's the job market? Am I completely nuts for even thinking about this after being a journalist all this time?

I agree with both Marga and Gerard. But I also think that
if you need a change of pace. Go for it. One thing is for
sure, you will learn a lot meet some great people, meet some
not so great people, meet some really wierd people and have
a lot of fun along the way. You might even be able to
take your writing skills and write a great book.
The bottom line however is passion passion passion for
food. Everything else will fall into place.
Best of luck
