can anyone tell me why poeple want their cakes decorated with colors that look like poison? no realy , whats the deal with black , purple , blue , shocking pink ,etc. icings ? its the most unappatizing thing i can imagine!
what can i do with my customers ? they are driving me nuts sometimes !
p.s.
and dont tell me "its business" .
peoples taste is very differant here then it is in other parts of the world.you cant do much about it but try to educate your customers about "other" options and show them pictures of decorative cakes that you made before and keep displays of your work that are differant than local stuff. who knows ,they might think its nicer then what they have in mind.
For a recent celebration, our company had a cake with sugar "balloons" on it--some were brown! LOL--well, I *do* have a cat :)
Another thing, colors mean different things to different cultures. There's lots of info about that on the Web, and, of course, consult your local librarian.
I ve just done a bright purple three tier cake with gold stars and comets all over it i had absolutely no idea what these meant and i asked the customer what it was for, he said he was in advertising and he thought it would be fun and unusual, and i think that is what it is about customers want a SPECIAL cake for the special occasion they want people to remember it and talk about it and for it to be FUN. O k it did not look the most appetising in the traditional manner but it served its purpose on the day.(and it looked quite effective).~~~~~~~~~~~~~mike~~~~~~~~~~~
Mike,
I did a wedding cake , the order came through a hotel so I couldn't talk to the customer .
It was pink with red decoration, looked like a load of crap no matter what we did.
Theres no accounting for taste, the customer was the King of Spain, I didn't know they HAD a king.
Oh well...
Regards, Gerard
I would like to know how to make a "RED" cake.
A stand up and smack you in the face kind of red.
Its for a very special wedding cake. The decorations will all be white but cake has to be red.
Any help, normal food coloring just doesn't cut it.
Try paste or powdered food color.
Might want to use colored rolled fondant and paint it. Have the servers peel it of as not to have complaints on stained clothing.
Or use powder as momoreg suggests.
