Finding a food distributor

WebFoodPros.com Chef Forums: The Bakers Dozen: Finding a food distributor

I am opening up a baker for hire business. I will probably be doing mostly wedding cakes and specialty cakes. My problem is that I don't know how to find food distributors in my area - anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

For all-purpose dairy and dry goods, try
Dairyland, based in the Bronx. For special
cake-related stuff, call New York Cake and Baking,
in Manhattan. They are a retail business, but
they're good for last minute or hard to find
equipment. For wholesale, you're better off
calling CK products in the midwest. They're not
the greatest company to deal with, but they have a
lot of useful decorating items. What, in
particular, are you looking for besides
that?-

I'll try Dairyland - thanks. But FYI, I will never deal with New York Cake and Baking again. I had a wedding cake to do with molded flowers on it. I ordered the cutter and other important ingredients from them. It was supposed to take a max. of 10 days to get to my house. It ended up taking three weeks and when I got my invoice, they upped some of their prices without even notifying me of this when I spoke to them on the phone. Thank you very much for your info though.
