My daughter needs to prepare and display an international dessert for 4-H. It must be non-perishable, no uncooked eggs, cheese, creams, etc. Anybody have something that meets this criteria that will knock the judge over?

Shouldn't she do this on her own?! Take her to the library or book store, she'll find tons of ideas in the cookbook area.

What's a 9th year 4-her.

Panini, 4-H is a club much like the boy/girl scouts. They host alot of community events and fairs. It is based mostly in farming/livestock and home economics projects. That means her daughter has been a member for 9 years. Hence the 9th year 4-H 'er
Just a little input from a former midwesterner.

I know enough not to walk in a cow pasture barefoot :)
RE: chocolate mousse cow patties?
Ah, you have been to one of thier fairs. (LOL)
Someone should tell them not to do their dessert judging contests so close to the cow pens. Eeewwww!

Well I don't know, but I do know that I never miss the food judging at the Texas State Fair. The preserves, jams, jellies, pies, cakes it's all wonderful and there is usually a faint smell of the cow pens. I have done some tasting there, but the local chefs seem to turn up their noses at this type of event. It's a shame, this is the soul of cooking.

Bravo, well said.
Have you ever entered a contest, not necessarily 4-H?
By Panini (Panini) on Saturday, July 01, 2000 - 05:22 pm: Edit |
No, most of the contests do not let people in the industry enter.

Oh, well
That might also explain why they turn their noses at them.
I can only think of one industry related event here. It's called " The taste of ------" )enter whatever city your in in the blanks). It is less like an event and more like advertisement.
The one I attended had the local McDonald's there next to the french style resraurant. " Would you like a McNugget with your escargot, ma'am?"
