Hello all
I have been thinking of relocateing to florida
and I was wondering how the pay is for bakers..
almost 3years exp.
mainly breakfast goods. some bread desserts (basic)
no fancy plateing or anything like that.
mainly work for catering companys.
I am comparing Fla to NYC which is where I am now

It's probably $11-15 per hour depending on the place. Plus you have tons of thing to do in the sun. It's worth the move as long as you don't have the "I'm from NY and this is how it's done" attitude. I can't tell you how many chefs from all over the country come down here to open places and they fold, Larry Forgione, Planet Hollywood,.....the list goes on and on. Specially in S. Beach. The problem is they don't understand the market and they put out a product that does not sell.
If you put out any product in S. Beach w/ more then 250 calories it will never sell, all you have there are models eating watercress and cucumber sandwiches!!!...and throwing it after!!!

Sounds like an area where you can run a pretty good food cost.

In the Orlando(central florida) area, a baker is about $11 for low end (grocery/chain store) to $12-13 for an independant bakery and a pastry chef around $13-15....... FYI Disney doesn't pay squat and they are having a hiring freeze right now. But there are a lot of adds for bakers in the paper. The Orlando Sentinal is on line and i do believe they have the classifieds available.
