WebFoodPros.com: The Bakers Dozen: HELP! Wobbly looking slanted tiered wedding cake ??How to??

I plan on making my own wedding cake. (I know, I know, it will be stressful and frustrating, but due to a lack of funds and strong determination, I will get this done somehow) The one we have chosen is kinda hard to describe.

It is 6 round tiers all stacked one on top of another, no columns. The top angle of the bottom layer slants down to the right, the top angle of the next layer slants down to the left, and vice versa up the layers. The topmost layer is a 6" cake with a sharp slant on it and has a cake topper of the bride strangling the groom (sounds mean, but is cute).

What I am wondering is, can I just put each layer on the next with dowels (higher cut on one side and lower on the other)? Do I need to have one or more dowels going through more than one tier (maybe one down the middle from top to bottom)? Also, I understand that I have to cut the top layer of each tier of the cake at a slant, but I also wonder if I need to cut the bottom layer of each tier at an equal slant as the layer below it so that they sit flush. Did that make sense? Let me know if I can try to describe it any further.

My cake making experience is not excessive, but I have made a few layered and tiered cakes before. Usually just 2-3 stacked tiers and a few tiered column cakes.

You need to have a quite a few dowel or straws (which i use) under each layer.
you use a cardboard cake circle under each cake.
than you need a large dowel to go from the top to the bottom to prevent it from the chance it could slide around
the large dowel will go in better if you have a point at the end
you can make a slight point by fileing it down with a nail file.
