Anyone got any great Christmas Pudding recipes? Also, anything unusual as an alternative to Creme Anglaise as an accompaniment - or a variation thereof. thanks andrew

I've seen alot of different versions all called Christmas Pudding that varied greatly. Personally I like simplier recipes with-out much fruit...toward the plain side. I don't have a recipe to offer that's "great" because I don't know if we could agree on what's a great recipe...
I think you can serve any sauce with it that works...hard sauce (Northerns aren't really familar with this), pear or apple sauces (I think Bo Frieberg had a good pear sauce), maybe a carmel sauce spiked with wild turkey.
If I was serving this ala carte I'd paint the plate with two sauces. Pear or carmel sauce and cinnamon or nutmeg anglaise.
