Not a bad idea, should be fun..at least it sounds like that now but I wonder what pressure you're going to under as the date grows closer, I remember mine 4 yrs ago and things can get hectic. Plan ahead , make the stand ahead of time, consider how to cover the stand. I cover the plywood base for wedding cakes with tin foil then stick doilies on top, then place the cake, it helps to have that ahead of time. How to transport it, what will the weather be like, if its hot you might want to think how its transported...all sorts of things crop up.! Will the base (wood?) be the same size as the cake (offers no protection), better make it with 2-3 inch border , makes it easier to lift also.
DO you have sufficient refrigeration to keep it all ? etc etc.
Got the flowers made yet? (hehe)
