We've been syringe-feeding one of our cats (a fluffy black male, 12 years old) three times a day since mid-December, when he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and secondary diabetes. Thank God, he began eating again last Saturday! (Science Diet H/D prescription cat food) Our vet was not impressed when I first told him that one of the things in that syringe has been high-calcium chicken soup, made from the recipe in Anitra Frazier's "The New Natural Cat." However, he's now a believer and I'm planning to have a few bowls of it myself the next time I get sick ...

Can't resist cooks-and-their-pets stories...My recently departed Pluto
(black spaniel) once pounced on a carton of takeout Chinese while
I stepped away. Apparently he forced his snout a bit too far
to lick that last drop of black bean sauce, because when I returned
I found him wearing the carton on his face like a muzzle (the
little metal holder slipped down behind his head while he had
his face in the carton, and he got stuck). Despite his wide-eyed
"help me!" expression, I had to stand and laugh at him for a good
two minutes.
